Beaconhurst High School had two teams entered in the Bridge Building competition. Participants were Shannon Jackson, Jameson de Witt, Kyle Harvett and Garreth Hewit.
Although our teams got no placement, they have gained a lot of experience in the following areas: starting in good time, reading and following instructions, planning a stable structure with limited material and working as a team. All these aspects causes a lot of friction/tension and, in the end, growth through experience! They are eager and excited to try again in 2017.
Beaconhurst High School also had two teams entered in the Water Distribution competition.
This was a more FUNFILLED competition in which 3 litres of water had to be distributed equally to 3 different places simultaneously.
Participants were: Rochelle Bessinger, Okuhle Klass, Homba Mazaleni, Jameson de Witt, Kyle Harvett and Garreth Hewitt.
The pipes and connections had to be assembled along a grid, and teams had 1 hour to build, test and change their pipe lines. Challenges were leaking connections, air bubbles trapped in the pipe lines and basic knowledge on which size pipe must be used where in the line. Penalty points were awarded for every mm above or below 1000 in each receiving bucket. As it is amongst youngsters, the girls’ team were elated as they had less penalty points than the boys’ team!!!
